LENS - Lite, Easy New Sight

Most of the people in the world are focused on good looks and prefer appearing natural without any extra trimmings like spectacles. Some people wear spectacles so as to complement their beauty while few others (who are forced to wear glasses) look out for lens to appear as he-himself.

With the same mind set as the latter audience, I shifted from my spectacles to the modern lens not as a move to enhance my beauty but to have a change in my look(to have some change after wearing those big, twin glassed companion without which half my life would have been blur :-()

I went to the optical shop after protracted discussions with my family mates (yep – it took some time to convince my mom of course!).I went through the eye check up first and the lady ophthalmologist (LO) asked me to try out the lens and hence offered me a free trail of the same. I accepted and started the most – serious but comical sentimental scene. Though my dad accompanied me, he regretted to watch the practice session with the lens. It was my bro who sat along with me for this extravagant trailer.

I started with full enthusiasm at the outset supplemented by slight trepidation (which I always have before starting any work). The LO took a pair of trail lens from the pigeonhole and started explaining me how to use it, when to use it and when no to (most importantly). She started inserting that culprit into my eyes. I was so nervous that I started winking my eyes continuously and did not allow her to accomplish her providence (inserting the lens). After a long struggle, the mission was complete. It was like having a fireball into my eyes and I screamed in front of the august crowd that was present.

There were scenes of sentimental – emotional category as water was flooding out of my eyes like Niagara; comical – I created lots of noise when LO helped me which was a delight for the people watching me (I believe they wouldn’t have seen a grown up to cry in front of huge mob); action scene which I expected but didn’t happen (I thought my dad would shout at me definitely but he was calm and poised as usual).

Finally after two weeks, now I am used to wearing lens though I spend some time in the morning to plummet that perpetrator in my eyes. When I now think of the big scene that I created, I could never stop myself from laughing. It is very true that “Things for which we cried will make us laugh when we think about those later on”.

Memorable days in college..

College days are always memorable for the frequent jaunt, never ending phone conversation, regular bus chases, intermittent group studies with lots of fun and the list goes on. It seems as if everything happened just ten minutes back. Though there are loads and loads of memories, the pick of the lot would be the industrial visit to Sriharikota in our second year. This was like letting out a bird from its cage after all those strict days in college. We had nice time making fun of each other and enjoyed to the core.

Another feather in the crown was the women’s day celebrations that we had in our final year. I was really surprised and excited when my name was let out on stage for having won “the best women student award” for that year. I got very emotional as this award is considered the most esteemed award in our college. The appreciations in front of the august audience, the tears that flooded out from the eyes of the parents is costlier than the costliest thing in this world. The college days would always remain as evergreen as always.

Back to School...

When we do not like to go – we went!

When we want to go there – no chance its too late!

Yes I am talking about “School”. After a protracted time, we (Radha, Mohan Gayathiri (MG), S Karthikeyan (SK) and I –we are all friends from school till Feb has no 30th...) planned for an outing yesterday(April 10th 2010). We took en entire week to decide on the place and the time after lots of conversations through of course our official mail and sweet messaging service(a new name for SMS J gud isn’t it ;-)).SK and I started off from our place through the MTC bus and reached city centre sharp @ 10(supposedly the planned time ;-)). We talked about our projects and we were joined by Kuchi (Radha – that’s how we call her.. Kuchi means stick). We again started off about our company as all three of us are working for the same concern but in different branches. After a long time when the clock just crossed 11, MG joined us.

We were waiting for her to give couple of bumps for gracing the occasion in the early hours of this pre planned meeting, that too after sending so many reminders the previous night. We had nice time going around Life Style and of course commenting on the garb out there saying that it’s too cheap “I won’t buy a kurthi which is this low-priced (Rs.12, 000)”. Of course who‘ll buy other than the models or media stars? ;-)

We then set off to Landmark where Kuchi and I posed to photos hugging some soft toys by when MG and SK had left the place calling it a beseech behavior... We then went to the food court and had ice creams to subside our hunger. Actually MG and SK chose ice creams of same flavor for which Kuchi commented saying that we would have different flavors. So SK chose an unusual flavor, which was not up to the mark and finally went to bin uneaten. (This is what we call “summa irunda sanga oodhi kedukardu”...)

We then had our lunch @ Desi. Even there Kuchi made a comedy where in whenever SK, MG and I talk seriously about something she would interfere and say something about food. For instance, we were talking about our school seriously where in Kuchi peeped in the middle and said “There is no garlic in Rasam”. Ha Ha Ha Ha... We then went to beach which was a feather in the cap adding to our joyful memories.

We had nice chat which lasted from 10 am to 6pm... Of course it’s at least one year we had met each other and after school this is the first time we are all meeting together. It was a wonderful day in my book of memories and of course I love cherishing it for ever and ever!

Laugh Attack..

This happened on Sunday, 13th September around 6pm. My mom is pretty orthodox and has superstitious beliefs to petite extent. Dad was not available at home as he went to visit my grannies. It was around 6 and mom called us (my brother and me) to be present in front of the pooja room. As expected, she had called us for drishti elimination.

Whenever someone achieves something, obviously they become prey for others jealousy. This is believed to affect the progress of that achiever. To avoid this, we have a tradition of drishti kazhikaradu(elimination of other’s influence-negative rays). Most of the South Indian people have this routine.

My mom is very authoritarian and strict while performing this practice. She wants us to unfold our hands, make our faces look stern, stand as the crow flies without animating ourselves. Generally we by hook or by crook obey all these and try to go by mom’s convictions.

This day mom called us and we were in place. My brother-the real culprit giggled and on seeing this I couldn’t stop myself from laughing, but he stood as if nothing happened when mom glanced at him. I was laughing round the bend and this amplified mom’s tension. I tried to control and kept my mouth firm but I messed up. I laughed to a great extent that the lighted camphor blew off when it came near me. Mom started gnashing her teeth and she shouted. I told her the reason to be my brother and this fellow acted as if he didn’t know anything about this. I told sorry for around 12 times to my mom and she started again, re lighting the camphor. The same happened this time also- I laughed and on seeing me my brother got diverted and we laughed aloud together.

Though Mom grew wild ,we triumphed pacifying her .I fell into her feet feeling sorry for the act (actually to escape the scolding and mollify her) .We controlled ourselves and she successfully completed the ritual. I felt macabre at the end for not respecting the tradition. I am sure that I won’t iterate it again in the future.

Zzzzz... 2nd March

I took off by paramount airways on 2nd of march @ 9 30 with my destination as Ahmedabad. Though this was not my first experience by an aircraft , I was very excited about my journey because of the most important factor “ I was traveling alone” ( in the absence of my parents to pat me).Wooh! Wat a different kindaa feeling ! “Hey galy you are grown up now. You have to take care of ur baggage.. You are responsible for everything you carry ! Gabardaar!” I told these golden words to myself and boarded the flight.

In contrast to my previous aircraft journeys which had three seats on either side, this had only two seats on either side. This was a pretty descent shock for me as I had one of my friend and her father accompanying me and I had a nice plan to share the third seat with them. Alas! All in vain.. Nevertheless I told “ Hey this is a learning experience buddy. Come on! You too have legs to stand on your own” and this made me to neglect the seat offered by my friend's father.

I sat beside a gentleman who on seeing my excitement offered me his seat(supposed to be a window seat). He introduced himself as an engineer (textile & manufacturing) . We had nice chat about various things and especially fabrics in Gujarat. He even suggested me couple of places to visit during my stay in Ahmedabad. We had nice breakfast that was offered during the journey. I never knew that I had to wait for another 45 days( my next trip to Chennai) for the Delicious chatnis and soft vadas, upmas (as couldn't get anything of that sort during my stay in Studio Apartments)

Though flight journeys don impress me a lot it was nice to test my confidence and motivate myself to be a better grown up even if not a perfect one.I had good experience to check in, get the board pass and have a security check, all by myself in the absence of dad or mom patting me always.. KUDOS!!!!

Still a Learner....

Booking railway tickets require lot of patience - picking up the forms, filling all the relevant columns, waiting in the queue etc… But even this job is easy as when compared to canceling the tickets which were reserved already.

I had initially booked my tickets with 5 other friends. One of my friend’s friend (now my friend too) booked tickets for all of us in third ac through the online railway reservation system. Because of some personal reasons 3 out of this 5, decided to go by air craft. So we had to cancel those 3 tickets. As a consequence of this the other two friends (Divi,Sangee) and I went to Tambaram railway station to cancel the tickets. We had been there already to reserve tickets some time back, but were totally new to the crowd and also all sorts of commotion that was happening there.

We correctly picked up the cancellation form and Alas! We forgot to carry a pen with us. Divi managed to get a pen from a passer by and thank God we knew all the information that need to be filled in the form. There were few seats in front of the reservation counter(s) occupied by a mob of passengers. Being naïve, we thought that they were waiting for their relatives who had gone for reserving the tickets. So Sangee and I ran through the chairs and on the way there was an empty chair- I told Sangee to occupy that chair and I continued my run piercing the crowd. Suddenly I heard a voice, it was Divi screaming “Hey Neer come back. These are the people waiting in the queue and all of them are shouting at you! Come Back! Come Back!” .

We never thought that they were also waiting to reserve tickets. Huh! We then came all the way back and the most funniest thing is that no one noticed Sangee who made her seat firm in the chair even after all these hubub. We however managed to wait in the queue and finally cancelled the tickets. It took nearly 75 minutes in the queue. Why should we asked to wait for such a simple cancellation? That too with reservation and cancellation done in the same counter? I realised "You cannot open a book without learning something."

King Khan Rockz

Movies -are they just for entertainment? My answer for this question is definitely “no.” I feel that I am so fortune to watch the movie “Chakh De” yesterday (14th Feb). Every sports person has some thing to learn from this movie. What an outstanding story. Kabir Khan brings up a girls hockey team from no where, make them win the world champions. The exceptional part of the movie is how the coach (Kabir Khan) trains up the team not on how to play hockey but how to respect each other team mate regardless of their religion, seniority thereby installing team spirit.

As far as the acting each and every person in the team had done their best part. The best of course is Sharukh who had done the role of Kabir. Wow! What and every drop of Khan’s blood had acted. I should say he had lived as Kabir. Excellent show! King Khan rocks as usual. Must watch movie. Though tardy “Better late than never”.
